Theater Group

The Salemtowne Players, an amateur theater group, began with about six people in 1999 and now there are over 40 in ages ranging from 55 to 90! A few swore they could never be on stage, and now they are up there having fun! Many work “behind the scenes” painting scenery, sewing costumes, and making props.

The Players put on at least one big show a year. In the past the audience cruised aboard the “S.S. Ipanic,” took a musical tour of Europe in “Vive Le Tour,” visited a saloon called “Goldies” in a western ghost town, held a variety show called “Senior Moments,” tuned in to a radio station in “Talk of the Towne,” staged cabaret shows, “One of Those Songs,” and “Misbehavin’ Melodies,” and a musical revue “Sing and Sway”. In spring, 2006, the Players featured a comedy about our Salemtowne Video Library.  Scenes from "Due Next Tuesday" here.

The Players also perform at the annual Veteran’s Day Program and have even taken the show on the road to senior centers and senior housing centers in Salem.

The majority of the funds received from ticket sales go back to Salemtowne in purchase of equipment and other items to enhance the community hall and our performances.

Check out scenes from latest musical, "Sing and Sway".
