When the Towne Hall complex was constructed in 1967, one of the craft rooms was equipped for pottery making. Since that time volunteers have continuously operated the ceramics program. All residents are eligible to use the facility and equipment without charge. Participants supply their own materials but arrangements for cooperative purchasing are available. Many participants save scraps of clay to make small household items as a fund raising project. The money collected is used to purchase equipment and supplies for the room. Some of the items sold are bisque discs used in brown sugar to keep it moist, garlic grater dishes and terra cotta wine coolers. The workshop is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and by arrangement on weekends. Orientation to the workshop and basic instruction is provided for beginners on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. The room can also be reserved for other meetings and classes through the Reservations Committee. |
